Dr Nikita Grover
Longevity & Functional Medicine Specialist
Dr Nikita Grover is a longevity and functional medicine specialist with over 30 years of clinical experience and one of the most distinctive training backgrounds of any whole-person physician practising in the UK today. Her career has been shaped by a question she formed long before she qualified as a doctor: what does it actually take to look at the whole picture?
Before studying medicine at University College Hospital London, she spent three years at UCL reading History of Medicine and History of Art, earning a BSc before beginning her clinical training. It was an unusual starting point, and deliberately so. It gave her an early appreciation for how systems of knowledge evolve, how the same evidence can be interpreted in radically different ways depending on the framework you bring to it, and how the most important advances in medicine have almost always come from people willing to ask a different kind of question.
Her hospital career spanned over a decade, taking her through cardiology, gastroenterology, paediatrics at St Mary’s, Great Ormond Street and St James’s, obstetrics and gynaecology at the Whittington, and psychiatry at Napsbury. That breadth was not accidental. She wanted to understand how the body fails across every system before building a practice dedicated to keeping it well.
She joined Highgate Group Practice in North London as a GP partner in 1997, a role she held for 20 years. During that time she led the practice’s work in dermatology, prescribing, palliative care and postgraduate GP training, ran its minor surgery service, and served as a GP Clinical Tutor in Culinary Medicine at UCLH, where she helped train doctors and GPs in the clinical use of nutrition. It was during those years that she became increasingly convinced that conventional medicine’s approach to chronic disease was structurally inadequate: that treating the presenting symptom without addressing the underlying drivers was not just ineffective, but a missed opportunity on a large scale.
That conviction led her, in 2019, to pursue board certification from the Institute of Functional Medicine, one of the most rigorous credentialling pathways in the field. She also trained in Mayr Medicine in Austria, a century-old European tradition of gut healing and naturopathy, and completed a Postgraduate Certificate in Genomics with distinction at the University of Cambridge, a Diploma in Clinical Nutrition with distinction, and a Diploma in Clinical Dermatology with distinction from QMUL. Her credentials also include membership of the Royal College of Physicians and the Royal College of General Practitioners, and she holds DNA Life certification in nutrigenomics.
She went on to become Head of Functional Medicine at Lanserhof at The Arts Club in London, one of Europe’s most respected longevity clinics, where she worked with patients on the root causes of chronic disease, medically unexplained symptoms and healthy longevity, using deep-dive diagnostics, lifestyle medicine and root-cause investigation as the standard of care.
Dr Grover is a member of the British Society of Ecological Medicine, the Royal Society of Medicine, the Institute of Functional Medicine and Longevity Docs. She attends international seminars in functional medicine and genomics, and participates in regular supervision groups with the British Society of Ecological Medicine.
She joined The Schoeman Clinic because the methodology matches the conviction she has held throughout her career: that the most important question in medicine is not what is wrong with this patient, but what is driving it, and what can be done about it before it gets worse.
