One doctor, four disciplines, one picture of your health
Why one doctor trained across conventional medicine, hormone therapy, functional medicine and longevity medicine can see the connections fragmented care misses.
Most patients who come to us have already seen several specialists. A gynaecologist for one thing, an endocrinologist for another, perhaps a gastroenterologist or cardiologist too. Each appointment answers a narrow question. None of them, together, answer the one that actually matters: why do I feel like this?
The simple explanation
The Schoeman Clinic is built around a single methodology, delivered the same way by every doctor on the team. It draws on four disciplines at once, rather than treating them as separate referrals:
- Conventional medicine. Every doctor holds higher-level conventional medical training so nothing is missed on the basics.
- Hormone therapy. Trained through WorldLink Medical and the British Society for Bio-Identical Hormone Therapy, addressing the hormonal shifts that conventional medicine often treats as an afterthought.
- Functional medicine. Institute for Functional Medicine trained, looking for the underlying drivers of symptoms rather than managing them individually.
- Longevity medicine. Trained through Longevity Docs, focused on the biomarkers that predict future disease, not just current illness.
Instead of four separate specialists, one doctor holds all four disciplines and applies them together, to the same patient, in the same conversation.
Why this matters to you
Conventional medicine is generally structured to treat illness once it has already arrived. But many serious conditions, including cardiovascular disease and dementia, leave measurable clinical signals up to twenty years before diagnosis. We call this the twenty-year warning. Most patients never hear about it, because the system they are moving through is not designed to look that far ahead.
This is also why the fragmented, specialist-by-specialist model so often fails patients with complex or overlapping symptoms. Hormonal changes affect gut function. Gut function affects mood and metabolism. Metabolic health affects long-term disease risk. Treating each in isolation misses the connections between them, and the connections are usually where the real answer sits.
How we think about it
Every doctor at The Schoeman Clinic is trained to the same four-pillar standard, so the quality of care does not depend on which doctor a patient happens to see. As Dr Gina Schoeman puts it: “the point was never to build a clinic around one doctor. It was to build a method that any properly trained doctor could deliver consistently, so patients get the same standard of care whoever they see.”
That consistency is deliberate. It means a patient referred from hormone therapy into functional medicine, or from longevity screening into conventional care, is still working within one coherent plan, not being handed off between unconnected specialists.
What to expect
In practice, this looks like a single, structured process rather than a series of disconnected appointments:
- A comprehensive initial consultation that considers hormonal, metabolic, gut, and longevity markers together, not one system at a time.
- Advanced diagnostics, including functional biomarkers and hormonal panels, chosen because they are relevant to the whole picture, not just the presenting symptom.
- A personalised plan that draws on whichever of the four pillars is most relevant, adjusted as your health changes over time.
- Continuity: the same methodology and the same standard of care, regardless of which doctor on the team you see.
Where this is going
We are currently building out more detail on the conditions we treat and the research behind our approach, alongside patient stories from those who have been through the process. That content will be live on the site shortly.
